Yes, I am indeed still here, but spending most of my waking hours outside in the PDMG, sweltering in the blistering Derbyshire heat (as we speak, it's 35C in the sun and 26C in the shade). It's Day 5 of our 16 day break, and I'm marvelling at our good fortune in choosing to spend a fortnight's holiday in England during a potentially record heatwave. Who needs Abroad when the weather's like this?

I learn from Karen that the TUC has - quite reasonably - been calling for a maximum working temperature of 30C. I therefore think that a selfless act of shoulder-to-shoulder solidarity is called for here. Troubled Diva is therefore on Hitzefrei until the thermometer says 29C or less.

I guess this means that I'm finally going to have to make a start on Monica Ali's Brick Lane. Bloody holiday assignments!
